04/09/2014 Contacting and Conference!

Hola mi familia 🙂

What a weeeeeek! one highlight of the week: Sister Larson did a tea pot joke for Barbara Farrison (if you remember her, she’s the older black woman that’s super straight to it and bold and sassy :)) and she LOVED it! hahaha I love Sister Larson 🙂 and Barbara!
Wasn’t conference INCREDIBLE?! On Friday we had an APF (Area Proselyting Focus) with our Zone in downtown Danbury and did TONS of street contacting with invitations to General Conference! IT WAS AWESOME! And a man that Sister Larson and I met (he didn’t even look like he was ineterested at first-he had his headphones in) ended up coming to BOTH sessions of General Conference on Saturday and LOVED it! He is now taking the lessons with the Newtown sisters 🙂 But it was legit!
Conference was seriously incredible-nothing better! Thank you mama for posting my status! I know that conference can answer everyone’s questions and that so many people are uplifted by listening to it. What a blessing!
Edgar cancelled ALL of his plans for the weekend so that he could go to every session of conference at the church! what a champ! We watched it on a screen in the chapel-just like when I remember as a little, little girl! Seriously a phenomenal weekend! I feel SO blessed to have been able to watch all 4 of the sessions! My favorite part? Going back and watching/reading them again and again! It’s amazing that Heavenly Father loves us SO much, He even gives us modern-day, ALL the time, just for us revelation so that we can continue to get more and more on the straight and narrow path 🙂
Everyone…I just love this gospel!!
On a sadder note…we met with John again last Friday and as we started to discuss the lesson-he told us that he finished the Book of Mormon! what a stud! Finished it in a couple of months 🙂 But then he proceeded to tell us that he feels like he needs to take a break from religion/meeting with us for a while. He also told us that he isn’t going to go to church for a couple of weeks. He said that he needs to figure things out with his living situation and just put his full attention into getting out of the transitional housing he’s in.
When he told us this- I literally almost started crying, I felt like my heart was breaking.
I know that John Silvestri is an incredible man, with soo much faith in Christ and in our Heavenly Father. He believes it and He knows the Book of Mormon to be true. I guess I don’t really know what I’m trying to say, but I know that our Heavenly Father IS SO aware of us individually and is in the every detail of our lives. I know that Brother Silvestri, with only a few experiences with religion, has come full circle! He’s been sober for 3 weeks and is now working on his smoking addiction and his coffee and tea addiction. He wants SO badly to follow Christ and to be baptized-He just needs to understand the Atonement a little better.
So that was an extremely hard thing for me, and we talked to him a lot about it, but I know that the Lord is taking care of him and that Heavenly Father’s timing is not always my timing, so I’m trusting in Him.
Edgar is also doing really well! We are still blown away sometimes with why he’s not baptized yet…haha but we’ve realized that he hasn’t been reading the Book of Mormon-so we started reading with him! We’re super excited for his baptism coming up-the Lord has seriously worked miracles with that man!
I also went on a split with Heramana Sorenson yesterday! so fun! haha we decided to speak in spanish as much as we could (She’s my Sister Training Leader/roommate). haha I didn’t last too long…but it’s still fun to try!
This week I’ve realized more that every single person on this earth wants to succeed. Everyone wants to be loved. And everyone needs love from their Heavenly Father. I know God knows these people so personally-and I need to be worthy and ready for the spiritual promptings so that I can speak to them and love them the way that He does.
I love this work. Remember what Elder Ballard said? Go find those people and share the gospel with them! They are waiting for you, my friends! We’re ALL missionaries-yessss sir 🙂
“Behold, O Lord, their souls are precious, and many of them are our brethren; therefore, give unto us, O Lord, power and wisdom that we may bring these, our brethren, again unto thee.”
That is my prayer for all of us this day!
Have the greatest week ever!!!
Love you forever and always,
Sister Smith 🙂
